They are located almost entirely in the Western Hemisphere with 48 continental states, the capital is Washington, D.C., the largest city is New York. The United States is located in the middle of North America, bordering the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, Canada to the north, and Mexico to the south. There are 14 territories and acreage up to 3.79 million square miles and 328.3 million inhabitants (2019). The United States is the 3rd or 4th largest country in terms of total area and 3rd largest by population size in the world.

Singapore is an island nation in Southeast Asia. The island nation lies off the southern tip of the Malay peninsula and is 137km north of the equator. Singapore territory consists of a rhombic main island, and about 60 smaller islands. Singapore is separated from Peninsular Malaysia via the Strait of Johor in the north and separated from the Indonesian Riau Islands via the Singapore Strait in the south. Singapore is a highly urbanized country with only a few primary vegetation remaining, and Singapore’s territory has been continuously expanded through reclamation and sea encroachment.
The islands of Singapore were settled in the 2nd century BC and later belonged to a number of indigenous countries. In 1819, British politician Stamford Raffles established modern Singapore as a trading post of the British East India Company, which was authorized by the Kingdom of Johor. The United Kingdom acquired sovereignty over the island in 1824, and Singapore became one of the British Strait Settlements in 1826. With the development of trade and shipping, Singapore grew rapidly. By 1900, Singapore had become the most modern and prosperous international city in Southeast Asia, comparable to major port cities in the world such as Rotterdam, Kobe, Shanghai, Hong Kong … Japan occupied Singapore during World War II, after the war Singapore declared independence from Great Britain in 1963, and merged with other former British territories to form the Federation of Malaysia, however Singapore was expelled from Malaysia two years later. Since then, Singapore’s economy has grown rapidly, being recognized as one of the Four Asian Dragons along with South Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
