The Independence Palace bears many names, each with a different historical anecdote. When the French colonialists invaded Saigon, they planned to build the Governor’s Palace of Cochinchina and in 1868 was completed and named Palace Norondom. After the Dien Bien Phu victory, Ngo Dinh Diem reclaimed the Palace and renamed it to Independence Palace, rebuilding a new monumental and stronger palace after the Palace collapsed on the left wing. The project was completed in the autumn of 1966, under the direction of engineer Phan Van Dien, Dinh Doc is surrounded by green trees. In front of the main building is a large courtyard with an impressive design by the green grass forming a circle, surrounded by a ring road that can go from the two sides when stepping through the gate of the Palace. With mainly domestic construction materials.
When it comes to Saigon with distinctive and unique architectural monuments, no one does not think of the Independence Palace (also known as Reunification Hall, Reunification Palace or Norodom Palace), is a printing work. imprint of time and history is located on a land of 15 hectares in the middle of the city center.
In 1867, after conquering the Nam Ky province, the French colonialists started construction in the center of Saigon city with a palace as the Governor’s Palace. The new palace was built according to a plan outlined by architect Hermite (who sketched the project of Hong Kong Town Hall). The front of the building is 80m wide, inside has a living room accommodating 800 people, and a large campus with many trees and grass. Most of the building materials for the palace were transported from France. After construction was completed, the palace was named Norodom Palace and the boulevard in front of the palace was also called Norodom Avenue.
