The Ede have long lived in the Tay Nguyen or high plateau region of central Vietnam. The Ede’s food crop is rice. The most numerous animals and poultry raised on the family farm are pigs, buffaloes, and chickens.
Ede group is well-known for making perfect “Ruou Can” – fermented alcohol drunk in a bamboo tube. Ruou Can is made from steamed sticky rice.
Festivals are celebrated in the last month of the lunar year, after the harvest time. It is held to give thanks and pray for an abundant crop. On these occasions, wealthy people kill a buffalo or an ox as an offering, and others offer a pig or poultry.
