Có một thực trạng đáng buồn hiện nay là khi đất nước bước vào thời kỳ công nghiệp hóa, hiện đại hóa thi một bộ phận học sinh coi nhẹ môn Ngữ văn và các môn xã hội, hay chính là nhân văn nói chung. Các bạn chỉ quan tâm học Ngoại ngữ, Tin học và các môn khoa học tự nhiên. Nhưng thật sai lầm nếu học sinh loại bỏ môn Văn ra khỏi hành trang tri thức khi bước vào đời. Văn học trang bị những cảm xúc nhân văn, giúp con người hướng tới những thứ khơi dậy cảm xúc muốn tìm tòi, khám phá. Nhờ có Văn học mà đời sống tinh thần của con người ngày càng giàu có, phong phú, tinh tế hơn. Đồng thời, nó còn có vai trò quan trọng trong việc rèn luyện khả năng sử dụng ngôn ngữ, diễn đạt, cách thức tạo lập các loại văn bản phục vụ cho quá trình giao tiếp trên mọi lĩnh vực của mỗi người trong cuộc sống. Nhưng thực tế đã cho thấy nhiều học sinh vốn đã không thích học môn Ngữ văn, nhất là những học sinh thi các khối thi có các môn khoa học tự nhiên, càng có “cớ” để lạnh nhạt, hờ hững với môn học này. Chất lượng giảng dạy và học tập môn Ngữ văn do nhiều yếu tố quyết định, chi phối: chương trình, sách giáo khoa, giáo án, phương pháp giảng dạy của thầy, ý thức, thái độ học tập của trò. Cần khôi phục động lực học tập, khơi dậy niềm say mê, tình yêu văn học của học sinh bằng những giờ dạy thực sự hấp dẫn, lôi cuốn. Cần tiến hành thi cử nghiêm túc, đánh giá chính xác, khách quan năng lực học tập thực sự của học sinh đối với môn học này để có những điều chỉnh kịp thời. Từ đó, môn Ngữ văn sẽ có vị trí xứng đáng – như nó cần có, trong hành trang tri thức của học sinh.
