Ly Son is an island district in Quang Ngai province, Vietnam.
Previously, Ly Son was called Cu Lao Re, according to the folk interpretation of “the island has many Re trees”.The island is the remains of a volcano with 5 craters, formed about 25-30 million years ago.The five mountains are the main source of the main underground waterways that supply the entire population of the island with water.Ly Son district is an island district separated from Binh Son district of Quang Ngai province by the decision of the Prime Minister of Vietnam in 1992 and has been a money-spending island district since then.
The area of Ly Son district is 10.39 km², the population in 2019 is 22,174 people, the population density is 2,134 people / km². There are 2 islands: Lon island (Ly Son, or called Cu Lao Re), Be island (Bo Bai island) in the north of Lon island and Mu Cu island in the east of Big island. At the end of the Neogen period (a geological period of the Dai Tan Sinh) early Quaternary, about 25-30 million years ago, Ly Son Island was formed seismic with the eruption of lava of volcano . Currently on the island there are 5 mountains that are traces of volcanic eruptions. The eruption and disappearance of the volcano have created interesting natural landscapes on the island. They also spread on the island’s surface to the south a fertile basalt layer suitable for many types of crops, and also create a patch of reefs that are good conditions for aquatic species to live.
