I live in a countryside in the Bedind of Vietnam, and my house has a traditional and typical design of that region. It is built mostly from wood – a very familiar .The living room is also the place to put the altar, and there are two big wooden columns right in the middle of the room. After the thick curtain at the end of the living room are three bedrooms for our family and a smaller one for guest. Next is a back room which we use as a dining room, and it is also a bathroom there. The kitchen is located about 5 meters from the main house, and there is a small way with the roof on top to lead to that area. The whole house is covered by a garden where my father plants some of the fruit trees and raise some animal such as chickens and ducks. In the corner is a small pond, and sometimes we catch fish from there for our meals. There are nothing much about my house, but it is the most comfortable and loving place for me to back after a long day .
Surely among us are too familiar with the image of reinforced concrete houses, maybe level four houses can also be storeys up to skyscrapers. However, not everywhere is fortunate to be in such a solid house, somewhere in the rural, remote and economically difficult areas are still simple, rustic leaf houses. In the countryside, we see many simple leaf roofs because the house construction cost is much cheaper than the reinforced concrete house, “what money” of the leaf house can not be as secure and secure as the concrete house . The leaf houses are divided into many types, the leaf houses in the northern highlands are usually made of palm leaves, the layers of palm leaves when newly roofed look very thick, long and shiny, and the leaf houses in the south of the river region are made of coconut leaves. , the fragile leaves are small, longer and more even. When roofing, the leaves are arranged in several layers alternating so as not to absorb rainwater, one layer on top of another like scales on the fish skin to create thick roofs. The leaf house looks uncertain from the outside, but in reality is completely different, the pillars are solid wooden pillars with hugging pillars, the walls are made of thick wood planks like trellis or inlaid with main roofing leaves. The floor can be made of wooden planks or made of bamboo bars that are lined up when walking on it emits typical noises such as ruffling or creaking. Living in a leaf house feels like being released into nature because the space is very airy, cool in summer, and in winter is very warm. The image of the leaf house is a part of the beauty in the customs of our Vietnamese people, although there are no conveniences and luxury, rural people still retain that beauty in today’s modern lifestyle.
