It is a recent trend that people shift their choices to organic food because of its benefits. However, besides the advantages, organic food still has some drawbacks. To begin with, in terms of beneficial effects of organic food, reduced exposure to pesticides is claimed to be the most outstanding benefit. Due to the regulations imposed on organic farming operations, the amount of additives as well as preservatives is limited significantly, which means that organic is likely to be safer and more healthy. However, cost factor of organic food acts as an obviously concerning disadvantage of it. Because of standardized procedures and requirements in production process, it almost always cost more than conventionally grown food. As a result, organic food might seem unaffordable to some people with low income. In short, organic food brings about both benefits and drawbacks.
