Local TV music shows have mushroomed recently in an attempt to take back the market share they lost to pervasive game and reality shows.
Newcomer “Toi Toa Sang” (I shine), a monthly live show for young singers that now airs on VTV9 (Vietnam Television) at 8:30 on the third Saturday of each month, is one such revival.
The channel also features “Dau An” (Impressions), “Am Nhac & Buoc Nhay” (Music and Dance Steps), and “Tinh Khuc Vuot Thoi Gian” (Everlasting Love Songs), the eagerly-awaited live music shows aired on the three other Saturdays of the month.
“Cau Chuyen Am Nhac” (Music Stories), a theme cabaret show that boasts time-honored melodies, is also set to air on VTV9 every Sunday evening.
Other VTV highlights are “Bai Hat Yeu Thich” (Favorite Songs) and “Bai Hat Viet” (Vietnamese Songs), which aim to honor composers, mixers, songs, and singers.
Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) has also appealed to its viewers by renewing old shows such as “Thay Loi Muon Noi” (Instead of Words) and “Con Mai Voi Thoi Gian” (Timeless Melodies).
