The general picture is one of worldwide repression of the cinema. Censorship systems inevitably reflect the societies in which they exist. In most places (1)… state control or religious or judicial pressure ensure heavy restrictions. Political changes are often quickly followed by changes in censorship (2)…- new government in Argentina and Venezuela, for (3)…, have introduced more liberal methods- but (4)… swings are usually temporary. There is even (5)… that movement to the right in Denmark and Sweden is leading to a diminution of the freedom of the media in (6)… countries. The liberal trend of the sixties has been halted or reversed in almost all places that (7)… affected.
There is, however, one notable exception to this swing towards (9)… censorship, for in Australia the traditionally tough line has been (10)… to a remarkable extent.
But Australia is an interesting case simply because it has (11)… the general trend. The hope that censorship (12)… be coming to (13)… end judging by worldwide (14)… of that time, has been soundly dashed in the years (15)…. In most places censorship seems as firmly based (16)… ever, (17)… by the turn to the right that has characterized politics in so many countries that have done (18)… with censorship have suffered in any calculable sense, there is (19)… reason to believe that their (20)… is likely to be widely followed in the immediate future.

The picture in common is one of the repressions of cinema worldwide. The censorship system certainly reflects the societies in which they exist. In most places (1) there is state control or religious or judicial pressure that guarantees severe restrictions. Political changes often quickly lead to changes in censorship (2) of – new governments in Argentina and Venezuela, for (3) them, introduced more liberal methods – but (4) changes are usually temporary. There are even (5) many far-right movements in Denmark and Sweden that are leading to the decline of media freedom in (6) countries. The liberal trend of the sixties was stopped or reversed in most of the places (7)… affected. There is, however, a notable exception to this shift towards (9)… censorship, since in Australia the hard line has been (10)… to a noteworthy level. But Australia is an interesting case simply because it has (11)… general trends. Hopefully censorship (12) … will come to (13) … end the judgment of the whole world (14) … of that time, has gone into smoke in the years (15)…. In most places, censorship seems to be well-grounded (16) … so far, (17) … shifting to the right-wing that has characterized politics in so many countries where it is practiced … Censorship was endured in any computable sense, (19)… reason to believe their (20)… was likely to be widely watched in the near future.
